On each of the 30 days leading up to Father’s Day, Life of Dad will feature a different great dad from around the world.
Today we feature Jay Sokol, and incredible father of the Little Dude (2.5 years old) living in Calabasas, CA. He’s also the creator of the fantastic dad blog, Dude of the House. Here’s our interview with Jay…
I really became a father when… I cut that cord and held my son for the first time. I was only a couple minutes into the gig, but the reality of it hit me like a ton of placenta.
My kid makes me laugh when… he cackles hysterically at something funny he’s done. His laugh is infectious. Much like his frequently runny nose.
Favorite daddy cocktail when the kids crash… Diet Mountain Dew, so that I can stay awake past 9:00pm
Dream date night with your lady, where would you go? Any night out we get is a dream. Actually more like a fantasy since our babysitters constantly flake on us. Dinner in a restaurant that doesn’t offer crayons would be a good starting point.
What is the hardest thing about fatherhood? What isn’t? My son is pretty laid back, but every day is still filled with challenges that can never be anticipated. It’s a big-picture situation so every move must be carefully calculated. On both sides.
What’s in your man cave? Man cave? I have a Toys’R’Us explosion instead.
How many hours of sleep each night? Somewhere between 4.5-6.5 hours. Unfortunately, doctors recommend 7+ for optimal performance.
What food that your kids eat do you like the most? Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. They should sponsor my spare tire.
How has fatherhood changed in the last 20 years? 20 years ago, if my parents called while they were away and I wasn’t home, I wouldn’t get to talk to them. Now I have multiple ways of videoconferencing with my son while I’m away, and that’s just from my iPhone. And I can even call him, too, I think.
Dream family vacation? Somewhere tropical with a clean beach, hotel room where I won’t trip over my suitcase and first-class plane tickets would be optimal. I might not come back.
