We continue to feature more great dads in our 30 Dads, 30 Days campaign.  Today we interview Victor Aragon, a husband, father of two, and co-creator of FanDads.com

photo 3Victor and fellow Fandad Gil created the site to share their experiences of playing video games and reading comics, but now as fathers not just fanboys. Victor works as a teacher and tries to balance his time with writing on the blog, raising his 3 year old girl, Sofia, and his second child, Aiden, that was born this past April.  While he has a lot of things on his plate Victor still reads comics (Chew & Walking Dead to name a few), plays video games on the PS3 and the 360, collects Gentle Giant Star Wars statues, is a Spider-Man fanboy (you can read about his participation in the Spider-Man ARG on the blog) and was named one of Chicago’s Hottest Geek Guys by the RedEye newspaper.  Victor hopes that one day he can get a comic project that he’s been working on off the ground, but until that happens he is trying to make another dream come true……to become a Jedi and train his two little padawans in the ways of the Force.

My first memory as a father is…  Feeling my little girl kick inside my wife’s belly.  I think it was at that moment that I realized that I had a little life that was going to be depending on me to take care of her.  That was the moment I went from a fanboy to a Fandad ( Sorry for the plug).  I think that at that moment I also started to wonder what kind of father I was going to be.  I think I am a pretty decent dad so far.

The funniest thing my kids do is…  Although she doesn’t do it as much as she used to, my little girl would yell out “Never” and run away when told to do something.  The first few times she would do that, my wife and I would question where she got that from.  We also were too busy laughing at how she would say it and immediately run away.  Later we found out that she learned that word from “Jake and the Neverland Pirates.” Damn you, Captain Hook!!

How many hours of sleep do you get each night?  If I am lucky I can get about 5 hours of sleep at night…that’s if I am lucky.  I usually stay up late grading my students papers, working on lessons for the next day, or trying to write posts for the blog.

How many hours of sleep did you get before you became a father?  Before I became a father, I would get a little over 8 hours a night.  8 hours. Man, I miss those days.

If you your wife could vacation without your kids, where would you go?  I would want to go somewhere geeky, so maybe San Diego during Comic Con weekend.  It’s one of those things that I have to do at least once in my life, maybe two or more.

If I wanted to go somewhere where we can just relax, I would say Punta Cana.  We went there on our honeymoon and had a great time.  I mean how can you go wrong with an all inclusive vacation.

If you could go on any vacation with your kids, where would you go?  I think we would go to Disney World.  My little girl is into Disney Princess’ big time and keeps asking about going there. So that would be number one on our list of places to go with our kids. Although we would have to wait until our second child is a little older so we won’t have to carry him all the time.

What¹s your favorite meal to cook for your kids?  Is pancakes a meal?  I love waking up early on the weekends and making pancakes while my little girl helps out.  She just sits next to me in the kitchen and asks me what do I want her to do.  She helps out with breaking the eggs and mixing the pancake batter.  She is my number one helper.

How are you like your own dad?  I think I am like my own dad in the way I try to take care of everything.  I sometimes do too many things at once that I get overwhelmed, but I always find a way to come through and I think I learned that from my dad.  My dad is a patient man and is always there when you need him..  I think I learned a lot about patience and hard work from my dad and I thank him for that.
