For the twelve days leading up to Mother’s Day, us dads will be writing about the important moms in our lives. Today is my turn.
If I could interview my kids about their mom, I think it would go something like this.
Dad: What is your favorite thing about the morning?
Babs: I enjoy waking up, and reading a book with Daddy, but I almost immediately start asking “Where’s Mommy?”
Tommy: It’s fun when Daddy holds me when I first wakes up in the AM, but he doesn’t smell or look nearly as good as mommy. Dude smells like tires and butter.
Babs: You know, I love it when we can jump in Mommy’s bed. We just cuddle, sing songs, and tell stories. That’s my favorite thing about morning.
Tommy: I’m not gonna lie. I love Mommy so much that I get extremely jealous when she is cuddling with my sister, or my dad. Hands off! Mama is all mine. Comprende?
Dad: What do you all do after cuddling with mommy in the morning?
Babs: Well, Mommy gets us dressed for the day. Some days I go to pre-school. Other days Mommy has a fun craft for us to start doing. Yesterday we painted all morning.
Tommy: By “painted,” Babs means that I made such a mess that I looked like graffiti. But, as always, Mommy cleaned me off after that. Girl’s got it down.
Dad: What did you all have for lunch yesterday?
Babs: Well, mommy made a smorgasbord of fruit, along with peanut butter toast. She knows exactly how to cut the food so I’ll eat it.
Tommy: I will literally eat anything Mommy gives me, unless the dog eats it first. I’m all… “Call 911…cause I just got robbed…by my dog!”
Dad: Then you guys took a nap after lunch, right?
Babs: Yep, mommy took me to the potty, and then let me watch a little bit of “Little Einsteins” while she was putting Tommy to sleep.
Tommy: Dude, I love a bottle of milk before night night. Nobody serves it as well as Mommy. Lady’s got skillz.
Babs: I owe Mommy an apology. I might have gotten a little angry when she turned off my show before it was over, but I get it, we had to head into my room to read before my nap. Oh yeah, and mom, thanks for leaving the light on.
Dad: Okay, so after you woke up, what did you all do?
Babs: Well, Mommy took us to our favorite place in the entire world…the ocean!!
Tommy: I was checking out all of the ladies, but none of them looked as good as my pretty mama.
Dad: Wow, that’s not easy taking two young kids to the beach.
Babs: Yeah, Mommy’s the best.
Tommy: Straight up.
Dad: Well, I sure enjoyed seeing you all when I got home from work last night.
Babs: Yeah, you said you had a good day at work. Ellen is your boss, but mommy is our boss lady.
Tommy: Word.
Babs: Daddy it was cool hanging out with you at night, but we still wanted to see mommy. We didn’t interrupt her, though. It was Mommy time.
Tommy: Yeah, she was watching Real Housewives. You don’t mess with BRAVO.
Dad: What was the last thing that Mommy said to you before you went to sleep last night?
Tommy: I don’t even remember…I just about passed out after that milk. I remember her hugging me, and I’m sure she said she loves me. She’s got my back.
Babs: Mommy said, “I love you to the moon and back” just before I went to sleep. Just like she does every night. I love her.
Dad: Me too.
