IMG_2410I’ve been a baseball fan my entire life. A New York Mets fan to be exact. Since having kids, I haven’t been watching many games, but that is also because the Mets stink.

I was very excited to hear that Dove Men+Care was working with Major League Baseball on a really cool program called #BigLeagueDads. I was even more excited when my friend Jim Higley and Dove Men + Care invited my family to a Dodgers/Rockies game last night.

My father-in-law just landed in town yesterday, and my wife, him, and I headed to the game after our babysitter arrived. My father-in-law raised 12 kids, and now has over 60 grandkids/great-grandkids, so he is the ultimate Big League Dad. The stars were aligned for an excellent night.

Living in Los Angeles, we knew rush hour traffic on a Friday at 6:30PM was tough, but we weren’t prepared for what was about to happen.

To make a long traffic story short, three hours later we arrived at our seats. And we only live about 20 miles away from Dodger Stadium.

It was somewhere during that brutally long car ride that I realized that being a dad is in many ways like being a Major Leaguer. If you have a bad game, or a hard day with the kids, you just have to shake it off, keep your head up and do it again.

When we finally arrived, I got to hang out with other great parents like Whit Honea, Trevor Mulligan, Zach Rosenberg, Andy Herald, and Joanna Schroeder. We had beers, met each other’s families, and had a great time.

Then we left after two innings, to avoid the bad traffic leaving the stadium. Sporting venues must have a simple Arena seating design to make it easier for the fans to navigate the venues.

When it was all said and done, we were in the car for four hours, and at the stadium for about one hour, but sometimes that’s just how it goes being a Big League Dad.

Check out the video below, it’s just of the many great videos in the #BigLeagueDads program, brought to you by Dove Men+Care and Major League Baseball.
