Ever since I was a little boy, my father and I have made started a tradition of building something every year for his grandfather and my father. I can’t think of a better way to spend your time, then not only working on something with your son, but doing something for someone else.

My father and I would often, help my grandfather with household chores when he was being less able to work with his hands. These activities would involve, cleaning out the basement, painting the extra bedrooms, or fixing his car.

Making Traditions

After I started to get older, my father and I were sometimes too busy to plan something that year and my grandfather never expected anything so he didn’t mind. Once I had my own son, I wanted to bring back that tradition.

For the last few years, my son and I have worked on small projects for my father. He wanted to work on a website for my dad’s small mechanic business. That became more of a hassle than we had imagined. After reading a bluehost review I saw that we could get something put up quite easily for my father. Even though that year was the more difficult gift to give him, there was one gift that he’ll never forget.

Planting Seeds for Future Generations

My son and I knew that every year my father had talked about planting a garden. Year after year, there was still no garden in the backyard. My father’s health hasn’t been the best the past decade and it’s been harder for him to use his hands. We knew that he would never be able to build his garden.

It was my son’s turn that year to plan the idea and he wanted to give grandpa the garden he’s always wanted. My son and I went out and started purchasing all the supplies and found that it wasn’t that difficult or costly to build a planter’s box.

One day, when he was at work. My son and I rounded up a couple family members who wanted to participate. We spent that afternoon building and decorating a garden for grandpa. This was well worth it when he came home and saw the garden. I knew by the look on his face that I wasn’t going to be able to top this year’s gift.

Like Father, Like Son

Activities like this has brought my son and I closer together, as well as my father and I. I think that any activity like this is the best way to mend any hurt relationships or strengthen ones that are already strong. It’s something I’ll be doing with my son for years, and hopefully he’ll do with his son.
