“Da-da.”

Simple word.  Its actually really easy for me to say.  However, children can’t say it immediately after birth.  Well guess what?  Babs can say it now.

For a couple months, she would yell, “Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.”

I wasn’t sure if this meant she had multiple fathers, or if she was just learning how to talk.  Sometimes she would say it when she was screaming, sometimes when she was playing.

One night, I was giving my baby girl a spoonful of sweet potatoes mixed with pears, when she looked at me, and simply said “Da-da.”  She not only said it, but she knew that “Da-da” was me.

Since that day, Babs calls me “Da-da” at least five times a day.

The baby also says “Na-na-na-na-na-na-na,” which is slowly transforming into “Mama.”  I kind of wish Babs had said “Mama” first, because of all of the amazing love Lucy give our baby every day.

Our pediatrician said a few months back that most babies say “Da-da” first because that is an easier word to pronounce.

I don’t buy that.  I just did “Mama” and “Dada” exercises for a minute straight, and I fully believe that it is easier to say “Mama.”  Go ahead, you try it.

Take a deep breath.

“Mama.”

Take another deep breath.

“Da-da.”

Which one is easier?

Regardless, my wife is an incredible mother, and I truly wish our baby had said “Mama” first.

I have to run…my baby is calling me!
