What up fellow geeks? How are things going? What is new in your geek world? Recently I picked up a few items from comic-cons and exclusive items. So it was a good haul this week for me. I am looking to showcase a few thing with you guys. So without further ado let’s get into it.

Batman’s Birthday Continues

Batman #78, the first part of the highly anticipated two-issue interlude to the “City of Bane” story arc, has flown off shelves for a same-day sell-out! Following in the footsteps of issues #75, #76, and #77, Batman #78 has sold out from Diamond Comic Distributors and is headed for a second printing. The fan-favorite team of writer Tom King, pencillers Tony S. Daniel and Mikel Janin, inker Norm Rapmund, letterer Clayton Cowles, and colorists Jordie Bellaire and Tomeu Morey have captivated readers with this tragic tale of a beaten Bat-family, the unthinkable death of Alfred Pennyworth, and a Gotham City ruled by Bane.

Featuring stunning art by Clay Mann, issue #78 spotlights Batman and Catwoman, reunited for the first time since issue #50 and the ill-fated wedding of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle. After Batman endures brutal punishment from both Bane and Thomas Wayne, a.k.a. Flashpoint Batman, Selina Kyle returns—determined to whip the Dark Knight back into shape, help him heal from his injuries, and take Gotham City back from Bane’s brutal regime.

Batman #78 has already received rave reviews from critics, including IGN who writes, “This story beautifully conveys the mix of longing and hurt that defines Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle’s current relationship.” ComicBook.com declares Batman #78 “a key issue of Tom King’s run, and an absolutely defining moment for the hero himself.”

Plus, bestselling writer and comic book icon Frank Miller will add yet another incredible chapter to his Dark Knight legacy on December 11th, as DC announced plans to publish a sequel to the acclaimed Dark Knight III: Master Race.

Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child is a 48-page prestige format one-shot featuring art and cover by Rafael Grampá. The story takes place three years after the events of Master Race, where Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Carrie Kelley, and Lara Kent overcame the renegade priest Quar and his cult of Kandorian fanatics in their bid to convert humanity into worshipping them as gods. During this interim, Lara has spent time learning about what it means to be human, while Carrie has grown into her role as Gotham City’s new protector, Batwoman.

When a terrifying evil returns to Gotham City, Lara and Carrie team up to take on this new threat, but this time with a secret weapon—Jonathan Kent. Known as the “Golden Child,” Jonathan possesses power unlike anything the world has ever seen and could be all that stands in the way of the destruction of Gotham City, as well as the whole planet.

Superstar artist Grampá was handpicked by Miller for this return to the world of the Dark Knight. The mastermind behind the groundbreaking Mesmo Delivery, this incredible collaboration marks Grampá’s first comics work in six years, bringing his extraordinary detail and storytelling skills to a story that only Frank Miller could tell.

Something Is In The Swamp

Warning! Unless you have express permission from Russell Weinwright to access his notebook, do not read any further. Seriously, we mean it. Okay, if you are still with us, here is what we can share: Russell is a middle schooler; he excessively doodles; he has two best friends, Charlotte and Preston; he is not so great at sports; and he is pond scum. Nicknamed “Swamp Kid” by his classmates, Russell has algae for hair, a tree trunk for a right arm, and a parsnip for a thumb. Also, Russell’s favorite meal is sunlight. Also, a frog lives in his arm.

In this notebook, Russell details in both hilarious text and color illustrations (complete with ketchup stains!) what it’s like to be different, to discover his true talents, to avoid the intense stare of Mr. Finneca (his suspicious science teacher who may also be a mad scientist), and to find humor in the everyday weird.

The Secret Spiral Of Swamp Kid by writer and illustrator Kirk Scroggs will make you never look at middle school the same way again. The book comes out October 1st.

Kobe The Wizard?

From the mind of basketball legend and Academy Award–winning storyteller Kobe Bryant comes this radically original portrait of five young basketball players, one enlightening coach, and the awesome transformative power of the game. Filled with insights about the mental stamina and emotional clarity that peak performance requires, this is an indispensable story for young athletes, coaches, educators, and anyone interested in the astonishing potential of team sports to unlock individual growth.

THE GAME WILL NEVER BE THE SAME

Magic doesn’t seem possible for the West Bottom Badgers. They’re the lowest-ranked basketball team in their league, and they live in the poorest neighborhood in Dren. Nobody expects them to succeed at anything. Plus, every kid on the team has secret struggles of his own.

When a new coach named Professor Wizenard arrives on the first day of training camp, the Badgers can’t explain the magical-seeming things they see and hear. Every player experiences unique and strange visions―visions that challenge everything they thought they knew about basketball, and about their lives and their secrets off the court. To survive the increasingly intense ordeals of training, the Badgers will need to take unimaginable risks, learn to trust their teammates, and confront the darkness within themselves.

We are going to be giving a few copies of the book away. To win a copy of the book follow and tweet at me at @ArtEddy3 and tell me your favorite wizard of all time.
