What’s good Fathers! Okay…So how well do you know your child’s personality? Are they the strong-willed, make things happen type? Or the careful, low-risk, for the sake of all others type.
In this week’s episode, I had the wonderful opportunity of chatting with Trent White, a member of the John Maxwell Team, who has deeply investigated the importance of personality types.
Brief Pause… If you don’t know who John Maxwell is…Google Him! He’s phenomenal.
Okay let’s continue.

As a father, Trent is devoted to understanding each of his 5 children the best way he possibly can. That has led him into learning, understanding and writing about personality types. In Trent’s book, What Were They Thinking: Solving The Relationship Puzzle, he outlines the 4 DISC (Dominant, Inspiring, Supportive & Cautious) personality types and practical applications in how to communicate effectively with your children.
Here are the 4 personality types Trent has researched and wrote about:
- The Dominant Style: Outgoing and Task-Oriented
- The Inspiring Style: Outgoing and People-Oriented
- The Supportive Style: Reserved and People-Oriented
- The Cautious Style: Reserved and Task-Oriented
Each personality type has their benefit. As a father, it is our responsibility to grow them, by making a deep level commitment to understanding each personality type to exploit your child’s strengths and re-direct their weaknesses.
Enjoy and Good Luck!
