My 4-year old has been blessed with super crowded teeth. This means that anything she eats will be trapped in there and will eventually lead to tooth decay.
If you’re like me, I hate the dentist. I hate the smell, the sound, the tears of grown man flowing like lava (or maybe that just mine.) I especially hate that I have to go by their word. I mean, how do I know I have 7 cavities? or that I need a root-canal? What I do see is the cost of all these “recommended” procedures.
For parents, it’s a completely different fear – the fear of pain to the child. And it’s not about me being overly protective of my precious snowflake, it’s about what kind of psychological damages it will cause to the child. I am always honest with my kids – when they need to get shots, I tell them it will hurt. But no amount of prep-talks will prepare them for the excruciating pain of getting their tooth drilled. Hell, even the shot alone is scary enough to make them flee in terror. So imagine a kid that’s gone through that experience, and their reaction when you tell them they need to go to a good dentist like which is easy to find online at websites like dentistofchattanooga.com. Why wouldn’t they cry?
So, if you don’t want to traumatize your child, you can opt for sedation. There are two types of sedation, general and pill-form (I’m sure there’s a technical word, but I don’t remember.) General sedation will run you about $1,000 out of pocket, and runs the risk of death or brain damage. Pill-form runs about $400, but there’s no guarantee that the child will be sedated. Awesome, right? Yay parents!
Unfortunately, our dentist never discussed this option with us. I don’t know if he finds it amusing to hurt kids, but he subjected my then 3-year old to 4 fillings and almost a root-canal without any sedation. So now, my kid is deathly afraid of the dentist – even taking a simple x-ray has become a WWF match. It breaks my heart that she’s been traumatized like this, it pains me to know that someone has hurt my kid to that point. Needless to say, we’ve found a much kinder dentist at a nearby pediatric dental clinic, offering professional pediatric dentistry services, but the damage has been done – the only options we have now is general anesthesia with all of it’s costs and risks. Dr Nam is certified by the American board of pediatric dentistry and maintains active membership with several local, state, and national dental organizations including the American academy of pediatric dentistry, the American dental association, Colorado dental association (contact https://www.hardypedoortho.com/contact/) and Colorado academy of pediatric dentistry. I highly suggest that you got to a pediatric dentistry clinic that accommodates your child for a pleasant first encounter.
So, please, if you are one of the lucky parents who have kids with tooth issues, make sure you talk to your family dentist about sedation. If you are looking for a dental implant centre in Manchester to help you achieve your perfect smile, visit 360dentalcare.co.uk and get a free consultation.
