Jessblogpic Doting father, husband, child caregiver, and social advocate for today’s involved dad.

Working mother, career woman, and advocate for women’s equality in the workforce.

When I was a kid I would read about women in history who changed the world and broke down boundaries. I was determined to make a difference in this world just like these change-makers. I wanted to leave a mark as a woman and do so equally with men. I was very fortunate to grow up in the 90’s and 00’s at a time when more career paths were open to women than ever before. In my mother’s generation she said she had very few choices for her career: a teacher, secretary, or a nurse (she became a wonderful elementary school teacher). I am so proud that within her daughter’s generation those boundaries were gone. I am even more excited at the prospect that in my children’s generation they will live their lives with equality in their careers, marriages, and homes.

I am a full-time working mother. I often have unpredictable work hours and have to travel for my career in Marketing. The way I am able to do this without needing to have child care for our kids is that I have an amazing 21st century husband.

I often miss chances to interact with other parents and teachers at school. I am not home to attend play dates with our kids. The way our family accomplishes these things is through the constant engagement of my 21st century husband.

I don’t clean the house, do the laundry, cook, or do the grocery shopping during the work week. Yet all of these things get done during the week to make sure that weekends are for family time, not chores. The way our family and house stay clean, clothed, and well fed is through the commitment of my 21st century husband.

I am a former chairperson for a women’s organization at my work that strives to educate, coach, and develop women in the workplace. I am passionate about breaking down perceived barriers for women in the workplace. I am so lucky that my husband is also an ambassador for change and has become a strong social advocate for today’s involved father.   He works non-stop for our family and for the dad blogging community to produce relevant content for the 21st century family.

Growing up I was so focused on the impact I wanted to make in the world, but I didn’t realize that the change could come in a less traditional way. It could come through a strong partnership with a wonderful man who is a change-maker and shares the same goal. By working together, I hope the story of our 21st century family will help to change the social perceptions of a woman’s role in the workplace and a man’s role in the family.
