The Dollyrots

Pop punk can be hard to get right and few bands do. Most come off as punk-lite which at best is a tepid bowl of meh, or they are screamy / whiny pop which is just plain awful any way you look at it. But when a band hits the right balance, it can be excellent. The Dollyrots is an example of this. The punk is legit, with substance to the lyrics, and the pop side of it keeps it light enough to be accessible for more than just the serious punk rock crowd. Think Runaways, blended with X-Ray Spex and a sprinkle of Dancehall Crashers. It’s great finding one of the rare bands to strike the balance right, and among the bands that do, they are one of the best. Apparently they’ll even do birthday Skype concerts if you meet them enough.
