INTRODUCING YOU TO BANDS YOU MIGHT  NOT KNOW, BUT TOTALLY SHOULD.

Typically when going to a show the lineup is like this:

First opening act:

  • 5 or 6 fans
  • others listening politely
  • crowd still arriving
  • best time to get your drink.

Second opening act:

  • Pretty good band you’ve heard of
  • Possibly past their prime
  • Probably a good show
  • Maybe good thanks to opening band drinks

Headliner

  • This is why you’re here
  • Drinks have worked
  • Dancing and singalonging

The other day however, I went to see Reverend Horton Heat and the opening band was friggin amazing. It’s one of the few shows I’ve ever been to where the first act equalled or possibly surpassed the headliner. The Delta Bombers did that. They are a quartet that blends rockabilly with blues and badass country; melding it all into a dynamic sound reminiscent of some of the best rock of the 50s and 60s. I don’t usually get to discover a new band for myself live, but I’m glad I did this time, and the show was friggin incredible. Check them out.
