Introducing you to bands you might not know, but totally should.

Stiff Little Fingers

A day will come when some of you have kids that will love Punk Rock, which is a wonderful thing. While they are discovering bands like The Ramones, The Clash and other classic staples of punk that everyone everywhere knows at least a little, you can blow their minds by pulling out some Stiff Little Fingers. While easily being one of my favorite bands of all time, they somehow missed the fame and popular appeal that other punk bands managed to get here in the United States.

Originally formed in Northern Ireland in 1977, the songs the band was built on were a reflection of the political and social turmoil they endured as youths in Belfast. While other punk bands were writing about the “boo-hoo” hardships they faced, Stiff Little Fingers probably would have found their existences pretty cushy. This made for poignant lyrics thrown out at breakneck speeds; lyrics that illustrated the violence and oppression they felt, tempered with an optimistic view of societal changes they hoped for. Even if you’re not a punk rock fan, you’ll enjoy some of SLF’s offerings. If for no other reason, get to know them so you can show up that 22 year old hipster walking around your coffee shop donning her Sex Pistols shirt.
