INTRODUCING YOU TO BANDS YOU MIGHT  NOT KNOW, BUT TOTALLY SHOULD.

TV On The Radio

Few bands get me more excited in almost every way than TV On The Radio does. They have an eclectic style that might best be described as Post Punk in some instances, Pop Rock in others and Atmospheric Electronica in others. The difficulty in pinning them down to a particular sound is the most thrilling part of immersing yourself in their excellence. To experience a song so beautifully melodic and perfect as “You”, and then something as electrifying and powerful as “Caffeinated Consciousness” in the same album is a feat that not many bands would be able to pull off. Chalk it up to the diverse influences each band member brings to the collective.

TVOTR formed in 2001 when lead singer Tunde Adebimpe and Dave Stiek (lead guitar/ multi instrumentalist) found themselves living in the same building where they were both pursuing individual music projects. Once they began working together, they brought on and lost other bandmates through the years. These include Kyp Malone (backing vocals, guitar, synth…… seriously, all of these guys do everything. I’m going to stop listing) Jaleel Bunton (drums) and Gerard Smith who unfortunately passed away from lung cancer in 2011.
This is yet another band that has eluded me when it comes to live performances. But from what I hear, their shows are as excellent as their music. I can’t wait to experience it all together.
