Built To Spill

One of the best, and (bafflingly) least well known bands to come out of the 90’s was Built to Spill who continue to make beautiful guitar driven magic. Day after day I listen to them and am surprised to find new things in songs I’ve heard a million times. We can collectively thank lead singer and lyricist Doug Martsch for this who mentions in multiple interviews that most of his songs have no real meaning, but that the meaning should be interpreted by and resonate with the listener. Will a song to be one of love and devotion and it will be; while someone else might hear music of desperation and despair in the same listen. Be that as it may, the lyrics are just accessories to the cosmic loops and unexpected departures from convention that the band employs in song after magnificent song. Together for 25 years, you might already know them and should revisit them, or discover them now while they are still active.
