INTRODUCING YOU TO BANDS YOU MIGHT  NOT KNOW, BUT TOTALLY SHOULD.

Kero Kero Bonito

I don’t know why Playlist Elevated hasn’t covered English/ Japanese Electronic Bubblegum Pop more extensively. I will attribute it to rarity because Kero Kero Bonito is the only band I know that does it, giving them a wonderful position to corner this very specific market. Their music always manages to give any mood I’m in a nice boost with their positive messaging and invariably catchy videogame-esque beats. The choice to be a bilingual band came before its inception when London schoolmates Gus Lobban and Jaime Bulled posted an ad looking for a Japanese ex-pat to front the project they were putting together. It seems like a hopeful ask, but soon enough Sarah Perry, who grew up in Japan, joined and Kero Kero Bonito was formed. Using her fluency in Japanese for rapping and English for singing, their songs could have been seen as strictly gimmick. However it’s a lucky thing for us that they have real craftsmanship in creating pan-global pop that would work in any language.
