INTRODUCING YOU TO BANDS YOU MIGHT  NOT KNOW, BUT TOTALLY SHOULD.

La Femme

I’m not sure I’ve ever heard a band that is as thoroughly French as La Femme. Glad I already covered Stereo Total and Yelle, both of whom are a good intro into French punk-pop and the eclectic krautrock-meets-punk-psychedelia of La Femme. You’re going to pick up elements of both bands in their sound (pop of Yelle and Electronica of Stereo Total), along with Velvet Underground and a sprinkling of Talking Heads for good measure. Happy songs with upbeat rhythms on one song are balanced by brooding heaviness and swirling surf rock on the next. With each song having its own unique feel to it, it’s hard to place them into any one genre, and takes any tedium out of listening to only them for a long stretch. When you don’t want to craft an actual playlist (or if you lazily just include reams of the same band in the ones you do make), you can rely on this band to keep you entertained for the long run. But believe me if France had a sound, that sound would pretty much be La Femme. They probably smell like crepes and croissants.

Big thanks to PookieMcGuire. When given the onerous choice of one option, she reliably picks the best. For this I am eternally grateful.
