INTRODUCING YOU TO BANDS YOU MIGHT  NOT KNOW, BUT TOTALLY SHOULD.

Gingerlys

I started listening to Gingerlys when I recognized my hometown of Long Beach, NY in one of their videos. They join bands like Public Enemy (Brother’s Gonna Work It Out) and Beastie Boys (She’s On It) who used the boardwalk as a background for their music. Their sound is…… slightly different though. It could have been the understated hushed vocals, dream pop haziness and sunny lyrics that set them apart from their boardwalk contemporaries, or…. basically everything about what they create. I’m glad I caught site of Long Beach in the clip I saw though. It made me pay attention to their music with Turtledoves, and explore other songs. All of which have the same awesome qualities, with differing paces, tempos and feeling. It reminds me of Mazzy Star, if she cheered up a ton and maybe drank some Jolt Cola. Check them out.
