There are a bajillion good reasons to remember to use adequate sun protection for both your kids and yourself. Sunburns feel terrible and the skin damage can have lasting and deadly consequences down the road. Tans are no better, and new research has shown that getting tan is equally damaging. The problem with all of this is, they are far off consequences. Repercussions 15-30 years from now are way easier to ignore when you want to have a nice summer glow when you get back from vacation. So, instead of getting into all the vague and mentally abstract reasons you should remember to protect your kids’ and your own skin, I present to you some RIDICULOUS sunburns as your tangible reminder to cover up. Apply adequate amount of sunscreen and wear a legionnaire hat to be safe. Don’t be these people. “Hat, check. cheap glasses, check. I think that should cover everything.”

Mid meal napping in the sun is just lovely.

“I’ll just wear my undies. No need to…. crack… open the sunscreen.”

We seriously hope his team won, whatever it was he painted for.

It’s funnier if you picture someone holding him from behind.

If only hats came with some sort of….. brim to prevent this…..

Applying sunscreen to ones own back is always a crapshoot.

We’re just super confused about the kind of pants he was wearing. Aladin?? Is that you??

Oh good, we all look stupid together.

So remember people, put on your sunscreen, and put it on your kids. As a former lifeguard in a very Irish community, I have seen my fair share of gnarly burns. One friend who is more pale than milk couldn’t put his shoes on for a month after forgetting to cover his feet (hi Phil!) Don’t let that be you. And whatever you do, don’t let it be your kids. They don’t know better, we should.
