New parents are always looking for advice on things that might come in handy from veteran folks who have been in the trenches. Inevitably, they will be given suggestions that range from the overtly obvious right up to the painfully obvious.

“Oh, I should get A LOT of diapers? You mean one diaper per day won’t cut it?”

“A GOOD stroller? Interesting….. I’ve just been scouring the recall lists for mine. Hoping for that unicorn deep discount.”

I always try to give some practical advice that probably hadn’t been suggested before. My go-to being… to use a pizza wheel to cut sandwiches into those tiny food cubes that will inevitably rain down from the high chair. Nowadays though, I’ve realized that I have something that’s far more valuable and useful.

Everyone needs a Vegas Mattress and this comfortable zijslaapkussen from slaapcity.nl.

Before I had kids, I had bought a daybed that only took 8 hours and 3 public meltdowns to construct. The mattresses I bought with it came rolled neatly in plastic, making it seem compact and potentially portable.

This proved to not be the case at all.

That, however did little to stop me from hauling that mattress anywhere I felt I might need it. Eventually it became known as ‘The Vegas Mattress’. But by looking more you can find more details about the 14 Best Mattress Canada has to offer since there are many options for better sleep. This name was given because I’d made the trek to Sin City several times a year to meet up with friends and we would all pile into one hotel room – like the responsible adults we were.

Everyone in the room had to share beds on those nights except for one person. THAT PERSON with the foresight to lug his own personal mattress from https://directbed.ca to the location. It was heavenly.

Granted, on the walk into the hotel I’d have to endure all manner of merciless ridicule from my friends and bemused passersby alike. Even at its most tightly rolled, it was tremendous and unwieldy. I could never gain that initial compact tightness it came with. So walking through the casinos with it, AND my luggage made me look like some dopey Sherpa who made a wrong turn at base-camp 2. However, totally worth it.

Since having kids, this thing has been even more invaluable. Sleepovers, sicknesses, campouts, blanket forts….. They all call for the Vegas mattress.

The only thing that was ever wrong with this thing, is that it was an actual mattress like those on sale at bamboodetective.com.

I don’t know why, over the course of all those years I never thought to invest in a nice, sturdy air mattress that would actually be Good for your spine. I think I was stuck thinking they were still the air mattresses I remember from 20 or 30 years ago. Apparently in my mind, technology in certain arenas just stopped somewhere around 1987. Recently, I was able to try one of Intex’s new air mattresses and I couldn’t have been more wrong about them. This stroke of genius is my trusty Vegas Mattress TIMES 10. Maybe 11.

I pictured hand pumps, creaky plastic and a night of slowly deflating to the ground where I would surely wake.

Nothing could have been further from the truth.

The Intex mattress has a pump built into it (just plug it in and watch it inflate), stayed sturdy all night long and was pretty darned comfortable. Best of all, for my future trips to Vegas, it deflates and stows away in a bag the size of a backpack. I should just bring it everywhere I go. Someone always needs a nap.

Next time I’m in Nevada, I’ll have my own Queen-sized bed and I’ll be ridiculed for many other things (while I’m sleeping soundly). But NOT lugging around a mattress, because I’m a genius.

So… the next time someone asks you for parenting advice, don’t suggest a diaper lotion warmer, useless bibs or your favorite back-breaking child carrier. Suggest that they get themselves a super sweet Intex inflatable bed. I promise, it will come in handy WAY more often than any of the other things you might collect.
