As a father you look to do anything and everything for your children. When you do that you are not only showing your love for them, but you are teaching them how to treat others. There are times where you feel like your kids aren’t getting that message. Then there are times where you are surprised by your children when they do something out of the blue that shows you that they are listening.

Son Helps Out Father

For Pete Recchia from West Orange, New Jersey he got to see how much his 10 year old son, Nick loves him. Nick was worried about his dad because his father needs a kidney. Pete has end-stage renal disease. Pete was born with only one kidney and that kidney is failing.

Nick wanted to do something to help his father get a kidney he so desperately needs. Nick turned to his local news station, News 12 New Jersey. He asked the people at News 12 if there was a way that they could get the word out to people in the area for anyone to help give his father a kidney. Pete and the rest of his family didn’t know that Nick called the local news station. They were shocked in a good way when they found out what Nick did.

Dad’s Reaction

Pete told News 12 New Jersey that he was very proud of his son for finding a way to help his dad out. Recchia has been on dialysis for two years. He has been on the transplant list for the same amount of time waiting for a donor.  Pete also had to quit his job with everything that is surrounding his condition.

Why Nick Reached Out

Nick told News 12 New Jersey, “I need my father to get a kidney. I figured if I talked about it here on TV then maybe someone would help him.”

Nick’s family loves what he did for this father and the family. The Rechhia family is hopeful that there will be someone out there that is a match for Pete with an A-positive blood type. That is the match he needs for the kidney transplant.
