T + B = C

(Travelling + Baby = Challenging)

D + B = C

(Dinner at a restaurant + Baby = Challenging)

T + D + B = C²

(Travelling + Dinner at a restaurant + Baby = Challenging Squared)

These were the formulas that the Riles family was playing with when they went out to dinner at a beautiful restaurant overlooking the bay at Universal Orlando Resort.

The Riles family traveled to Florida last week for their first family vacation.  Well, it was kind of a work-vacation, because The Ellen DeGeneres Show was taping shows on Sunday at Universal Orlando Resort.  Tommy Riles, the patriarch of this young family, is Ellen’s audience warm-up comedian.

The weather in the greater Orlando area was rough on Thursday, leading to flight delays, choppiness, and a long day for little Babs Riles.

Friday, the entire Riles clan was spotted at the kiddie pool at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, a luxury hotel designed like a small Italian fishing village (that’s what “Portofino” means).  Later in the day they visited the Universal Studios theme park, and finally returned to the hotel for dinner.

Based on the T + D + B = C² formula, dinner was not going to be fun.  Babs was totally wiped out from the past two days, and was acting irritable.

Then something amazing happened.  Babs perked up, sat in her high-chair, and started chowing down on Italian bread.  Some of the other highlights of her dinner included laughing, smiling, high-fiving, sticking her tongue out, making a fish face, saying “uh-oh,” and saying “hi” to everybody she saw.

This thirteen month old, turned a long two days into the perfect dinner for her parents.  Tommy and Lucy Riles were both overheard saying that this was one of the most memorable dinners they have ever had, because their baby was so happy, the food was great, the weather was beautiful, and their baby was, well…perfect.

What have we learned today?

Sometimes…

T + D + B = C² + R + A

(Travelling + Dinner at a restaurant + Baby = Challenging Squared + Rewarding + Awesome)
