The cost of not valuing someone can be devastating.

Insecurity.  Poor performance.  Lack of trust.  The list goes on.

I personally saw this story unfold today.  A person was clearly afraid and dismayed by the fact their supervisor (aka leader) failed to consider their concerns on an issue.

As the person was sharing their story, I really couldn’t get past the look on their face.  They were hurt.  They couldn’t keep eye contact.  They kept saying things like; “fear”, “get in trouble”, and “I can’t”.  It was painful to see, and I can’t imagine how they were feeling on the inside.

One of the leading authorities (and my personal favorite) on leadership, John Maxwell, spoke about this issue at GLS16.  If you are not intentionally adding value to others around you, the whole organization suffers.  Whether it’s your family or a Fortune 500, it’s important to have leadership that creates a ripple effect of growth and connection.

Fathers, we have the awesome privilege of adding value to those who matter most, our children.  How do you do that?  Start small.  Let them read a book to you.  Take them on a college tour.  Offer them meaningful ways to earn money.  All these pieces add up over time, and pretty soon you discover, not only are you adding value to their life, but that they are adding value to yours.

Well if you enjoyed Part 1 of my experience at The Global Leadership Summit 2016, then I guarantee you will love Part 2.

Enjoy!
