Father Son

I often wondered how it was that my father, a big time hockey fan, always managed to keep his cool even when his favourite team was being embarrassed on a nightly basis. In my early teens I can remember how mad I would get when things didn’t go my team’s way and that passion continued all the way through to my early 30’s.

Then something happened. I had two children and my perspective on what was important suddenly shifted. I often found myself forgetting that there was even a game on and for someone whose entire basement was branded in sports memorabilia, this was a weird phenomenon. I tried forcing myself to get angry at how poorly the Miami Dolphins were playing but the truth was that I just didn’t care as much anymore. That, and the fact that I didn’t want my kids seeing how ridiculous I used to act over such trivial things.

Now, as my son enters the stage where he will start to cheer for teams of his own, I am faced with a different dilemma. Do I push my favourite teams on him or do I let him figure it out by himself? Even though I don’t cheer as passionately and rabidly as I used to, I am still a huge sports fan and I still love listening to motivational speakers from Sports Speakers 360, and would love for him to follow the same teams as I do.

In the end, it doesn’t really matter to me who he cheers for, or if he decides to be interested in sports at all, for that matter. Having children of my own has helped me answer the question of why my father never showed much emotion about professional sports. It’s funny to think back on how he tried to warn me about the changes that come with having kids. Oh, the things we think we know as teenagers! If you ever decide to invest in sports facilities like tennis courts, consider hiring tennis court contractors from https://tennis-court-maintenance.uk/ or from sites like www.tenniscourtmaintenance.co. And if you need anti-slip surface for your sports facilities, then you might want to consider applying sports coatings.
