Week 11 has come and gone. I want to say congratulations to Mike who is the owner of “I’m A Man I’m Forte” from the Life of Dad West Conference. He had the highest point total this week. Since your team did the best this week Mike, you get a shirt from Junk Food Clothing. Well done sir.

Okay, I am calling an audible this week. Instead of doing a recap of this past week’s events or talking about how to cope with losing your matchup I want to mix in some parenting with football. Stay with me here. Well most of you who read this are dads in the fantasy football league so I guess it might not be a huge stretch. JunkFood_logo_new_w300

My daughters who are 5 and 3 years old tend to watch a football game with me from time to time. My youngest is a fan of the Miami Dolphins. My oldest says that she likes the Carolina Panthers. She will also cheer on the 49ers since they are my team. Love all of this.

What I love even more is something I mentioned on the latest Life of Dad Show podcast to my co-host Tom Riles. Besides watching the game with me, I love the fact that they also ask questions about the game. If a player is hurt, they might ask me what happened to him. They will also inquire if that injured player needs medicine or a band aid. I mostly reply with the same phrase of, “He will be alright.”

Now there is a new trend that is happening. We are adding some math into watching football. See that? You can now tell your family that football helps educate the youths of today. Last year Jordan would ask me if the Dolphins were winning at least 75 times that game. I kept on updating the score to her as if I was the sports ticker at the bottom of the TV.

This year Lily has taking over my update duties. This past Sunday the NFL Red Zone channel was showing a bit of the Dolphins game. As soon as Jordan saw the Dolphins logo, she stopped what she was doing and asked me if they were winning.

Before I could answer her Lily took the words right out of my mouth. Lily told Jordan that the Dolphins are winning since they have 14 points and the Chargers have 13 points. I was proud on MANY levels. Lily even looked at my fantasy football screen on my laptop and told me that I was losing to my game by looking at the two point columns.

So not only do we get to watch football, we are also learning as well. That is a two for one that will always work for me.
