So Week 2 is now all wrapped up after the Monday night game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals. Before I get into what I saw this week in the NFL fantasy wise I want to give a shout out to Creed owner of “CLEVELAND The Captain” in the Life of Dad East Conference for winning the NFL T-shirt from Junk Food Clothing. Congrats sir! Wear the shirt with pride.
The “Manning Bowl” did not live up to the hype simply because little brother Eli Manning was trying to force things in the air since the New York Giants running game was nonexistent. Big brother Peyton is now 3-0 in the head to head meetings.
There was an unfortunate trend going on this week. Many star players got hurt. Now I need to say something here due to the Ray Rice Twitter incident. For those who don’t know, many fantasy football owners were going to Twitter to yell at Ray Rice for getting hurt. Yes, you read that correctly. Rice did not have a great game, but to make matters worse he left the game in the fourth quarter due to an injury. He suffered a hip flexor strain. He also needlessly suffered the wrath of fantasy owners chewing him out on social media.
After reading all that negativity Rice wrote this on Twitter in response to those haters. “I was a fan of fantasy football until today so many spiteful and hateful words I still love you all God Bless great win today #Ravens”
We are playing “fantasy” football here folks. Calm down and relax. If you don’t win in your fantasy league that week it is not the end of the world. Not that I need to tell the dads here playing in our league. There is no smack talking going on in either of the two leagues. Don, who runs K- Krew in the Life of Dad East Conference even posted up a topic asking, “Why is our league message board so quiet?”
Fred from Life of Dad East replied, “Would you talk smack if you started Danny Amendola this week?”
Can’t argue with Fred’s point there. Getting back to the injured list, Texans Andre Johnson and Packers Eddie Lacy both left the game due to concussions. Steven Jackson, Maurice Jones-Drew, Reggie Bush, Vernon Davis, and Larry Fitzgerald all got hurt as well.
The Washington Redskins collectively are not doing well either. It seems their whole team should be on the injured reserve list. RG3 and the rest of the Redskins look like they are playing in slow motion. As for the fast paced Philadelphia Eagles, who everyone was praising, lost to the San Diego Chargers. The Eagles loss didn’t impact Michael Vick’s high point fantasy output. He finished right behind Week 2’s fantasy scoring leader Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.
Other fantasy studs for Week 2 were Marshawn Lynch, Philip Rivers, Eddie Royal, Julio Jones, and Sam Bradford. Lions All-Pro Calvin Johnson got into the end zone twice after not doing too much in Week 1.
If today you are second guessing your lineup or mad at yourself for losing this week just remember what Outkast said in their song “Ms. Jackson”. “You can plan a pretty picnic, but you can’t predict the weather.” Shrug off this week’s loss, get back in the game and look to do better in Week 3.
