I want to first apologize to all the single men out there reading this, who haven’t used the word “tummy” in years.  I was the same way.  Until this past month, I had not used the word since fourth grade, and I believe there was a fight involved.  My tummy…ahem…stomach didn’t stop hurting for weeks.

Anyway, last week, Baby Barbara’s pediatrician said that we could begin putting our baby on her stomach at least twice a day.  This would in turn start strengthening her neck muscles (her dad has an abnormally strong neck, due to “tummy” time into his twenties).

All of this was really exciting to me, not just because I could freely use the word tummy again, but because Babs was starting to do something aside from just the baby basics.

That baby basics of course are…  PPPBCD

Puke

Pee

Poop

Burp

Cry

Diaper Change

You down with PPP?  Yeah, BCD!

Each of these is fantastic in its own way, but putting Barbara on her stomach made me realize that she was starting to grow up, just a little bit.

Once she was on her tummy (stomach if you’re still not comfortable saying it), she lifted up her neck, and turned to the other side.  It was a cool moment.

Here are some other memorable moments we have witnessed over the past few days:

  1. Our baby possibly completing her first smile (still not sure if it was a smile)
  2. A courageous performance by Sandra Bullock in “The Blind Side.”
  3. Barbara kicked the coffee mug I was drinking out of, while feeding her.
  4. Barbara bringing good luck to the Mets and White Sox on opening day.

Oh yes, on a side note…a great moment for me was watching the Red Sox/Yankees game on Sunday night, while holding my baby and a beer.  I realized everything was right in the world, and then Babs puked on me.  You down with PPP?

In conclusion, I encourage you all to take “tummy time” for yourself today, as it will lead to a fantastic week.

Who doesn't enjoy "Tummy Time?"
