Milky Chance’s songs have been played close to 200,000,000 times on Spotify since their debut album was released in 2013, but chances are you probably haven’t heard them yet. That is, unless you’re in Germany…. or Austria….. or France….. or Belgium where their first single quickly reached number 1 and where they were highlighted in the European MTV Awards. After just recently playing their first shows in the US, they are starting to get some well deserved recognition over here. The band is a duo consisting of Clemes Rehbein and Philip Dausche who met in high school and have been playing together ever since. Their music is hard to pinpoint to any one style, but is a mashup of electronic R&B, Folk and Reggae. It’s minimalist instrumentation puts a well deserved spotlight on the incredible vocals and lyrics of their songs. The entire first album is one of the few I would say doesn’t disappoint with a single song which made it hard to pick out the standouts.
