This letter must have gotten lost in the mail when I first sent it… I wrote it last week before Father’s Day.

Dear Barbara Anne-

I’m writing you this letter from the hotel where your mom and I got married almost two years ago. Beautiful view overlooking the Chicago River and the entire city.

We are on your first trip to Chicago. You were an amazing baby on the plane, and you’ve been even better since we landed. You met all of your family on the Bansley side, and they couldn’t love you more.

Then you and your parents checked into a hip hotel, named “The Wit,” which is right next door to the Chicago Theater. Your old man was doing warm-up for “Ellen’s Somewhat Special Special,” which is a part of TBS’s Just For Laughs Comedy Festival.

This was your first time in a hotel room, and you slept really well in your pack-and-play. I wish adults could have pack-and-plays as well, so we could just set up and take a nap wherever we want to.

When I was at work, you and your mom had fun days on your grandfather’s boat, and with your mom’s high school friends. One of the highlights of our trip was the entire Riles family just hanging out on the riverfront, with you chilling on a blanket.

On Wednesday, when I was at work, you scooted for the first time. That’s right, your mom said that you powered forward with your knees, and scooted forward about a half a foot, and then did it again. I haven’t successfully scooted in over four months, so that is impressive.

Wednesday night, you grandfather and aunt went to the Ellen show. The crowd was ecstatic when the Chicago Blackhawks walked out with the Stanley Cup. The show was fantastic, and is airing June 27th on TBS. Performing at the Chicago Theater was absolutely one of the highlights of my career. Even more incredible was being able to go back to my room afterwards and see my beautiful wife and baby.

Tonight I’m meeting up with some friends, and tomorrow we begin the long weekend with the Bansley family. Sunday is my first Father’s Day as a proud father to you. You continue to be the strongest person I know.

Thanks for being my baby.

Love,

Dad
