Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck talk with The Life of Dad Show host, Art Eddy about directing Captain Marvel, the pressure of adding a new superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the casting of the actors for the film. Anna and Ryan were also kind enough to ask a questions that were prepared by Art’s daughters. They even share with Art about how they went about creating the Stan Lee cameo in Captain Marvel.


About Anna Boden

With Captain Marvel, Anna Boden becomes the first female director in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While studying film at New York University, Boden met directing partner Ryan Fleck on the set of a student film. Together they began their collaborations with the documentary, Young Rebels. In 2006 Boden and Fleck wrote, and Boden produced, the feature film, Half Nelson, starring Ryan Gosling who was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance.

The film also won movie of the year for the AFI awards, with Boden and Fleck being nominated for an IndependentSpirit Award for best screenplay. Boden and Fleck followed the film by writing and directing the independent film Sugar, which was an introspective sports drama that followed the life of a talented Dominican baseball player.The film won movie of the year at the AFI awards and received critical praise. In 2010, Boden and Fleck wrote and directed the film It’s Kind of a Funny Story, starring Keir Gilchrist, Lauren Graham, Zach Galifianakis and Zoey Kravitz. They followed the film by writing and directing the dramedy Mississippi Grind, starring Ben Mendelsohn, Ryan Reynolds and Sienna Miller. On television,Fleck and Boden have directed episodes of HBO’s Room 104, Showtime’s Billions, The Affair and The Big C.

About Ryan Fleck

Ryan met directing partner Anna Boden while studying at New York University film school. Their first collaboration was the documentary, Young Rebels.
