For those of you who have a yard, do you enjoy mowing it? Is it your own private punishment, your hell on earth? Or is it your escape, your pride, your weekend project?

For me, it’s the latter. When I was growing up, mowing was a chore and I HATED it. I loved having Ocala Lawn Care do the mowing instead. But since we bought our own house, I have a new-found love of sod, sprinklers, mowers, and pesticides from https://www.pestcontrolexperts.com/local/michigan/ I use to keep my family safe from infestations and wild animals.

Saturday morning is the escape, it is MY time. I get up and put on my old, ratty shirt, shorts, and shoes. I then carefully select my playlist for the day and head outside to gas up the equipment and get started By the way, if you still haven’t bought a lawn mower or a string trimmer I recommend FindStringTrimmers as the best place to get one. They have a great collection of reviews on the best ones out there. Now, back to the topic. . Once I hit play on the iPod and crank up the engine on the mower, I’m in man-land. Nothing but me, the mower, and the grass. No whining, no crying, no nagging!

The strange thing about all of this is that I think it bothers my wife a little bit. Sure she likes having me out of her hair for a little while, but I almost sense a hint of jealousy when it is time to mow. It may be that she resents the fact that I get all of the glory for our beautiful yard (which happens to be the best on the block), but it’s probably more because I get to escape the house and the toddler for a couple of hours of “me time,” even if it requires work.

Lately, when I start my Saturday routine, I get asked, “How long are you going to be?”, “You mowed last week, does it really need to be done again?”, or “Don’t take all day!” Doesn’t she realize that she gets the praise and accolades for doing the laundry, the dishes, and for cooking? The yard is my “thing!” I’ve started asking myself that, if I pretended that I hated it, would she nag me to do it like she does taking out the trash? Maybe I should change my plan of attack so that I can go back to mowing in peace! She has even started sending my son out with his toy mower while I’m working. While this is cute, it distracts me from my straight lines and even cuts. This ploy may be part of her master plan to destroy my lawn and steal my “man time!”

Currently, I’m working with some ex-military friends to formulate a preemptive strike, my own version of “shock-and-awe”, in order to win the Yard Wars: Rise of the Wife. I hope to update everyone when the campaign is finished and I have declared “Mission Accomplished”, I just hope that I am not premature like my Texas brother, “W!”
