Introducing Life of Dad’s book club!  A father’s review of my daughter’s favorite books.

“Puppy Love” by Priddy Books

Described as a “baby touch and feel” book, “Puppy Love” delivers on that promise.  Each page features a short poem about a dog, as well as a “touch portion” where you can feel the doggy’s fur, bow, or even the basket he is laying in.

By the end of the book, the reader knows Rex, Spot, Rollo and Smartie very well, having even felt their ears!

Unfortunately, the puppy rhymes sometimes feel a bit forced…see the below example:

“Rex’s tail wags to and fro –
He’s hungry and wants you to know!
He’s been having puppy fun,
Outside in the shining sun.”

In the photo, Rex’s tail does seem to be wagging, but his eyes look sad.  Not sad because of hunger, but rather because of the heat and his thick coat (which you can feel in the book.)

Basically, this photo proves that from the above rhyme, only the first line is true… “Rex’s tail wags to and fro-“

The remainder of Rex’s story seems incorrect.  We have no way of knowing Rex is hungry, but we do know that he is not having fun outside in the shining sun.

Overall though, the book is a great read, and my daughter loves that you can feel each one of the “daught-knees.”  That’s how she says doggy.

Despite the sometimes inconsistent rhymes, I highly recommend this book for anybody under the age of 21.
