I recently applied for a job doing freelance copy writing work for LivingSocial.com. They provided 2 locations that they wanted sample writing done for, and done in the style that they typically use to describe the deals. They also wanted a creative cover letter that would catch their eye and have candidates stand out. Below is the cover letter I came up with followed by the 2 writing samples. I used SEOToolsCentre – sentence rewriter to get the best out of my work. Livingsocialites, clearly I should be your colleague.

Dear Sir or Madam:

A study was recently done to determine the odds of any person on earth actually existing as they do today. It took into account factors like the probability of your grandparents meeting, dating, falling in love with each other… and so forth. I won’t even get into the biological uncertainty of what made this particular version of me, and not some taller specimen. What it came up with was that the probability of me being me was 1 in 10 to the 45,000th power. That’s a 10 with 45,000 zeros after it!!!

It’s highly improbable for me to exist at all. After reading that I realized that the chances of me applying to this job almost can’t exist. All of my life experiences had to lead me to this moment. My English Degree, my years of teaching in NYC and the time I’ve spent doing sales and marketing in various businesses have all put me onto this path. On top of that, my passion for writing and my knack for putting amusing spins onto situations that might drive others into despair (see my blog! http://patrickquinn.lifeofdad.com) have prepared me to be the perfect person for this job. This is truly defying the odds!!
