Super Heroes seem to be everywhere these days. From epic blockbuster movies that bring together entire teams of known and loved characters, to smaller films featuring less well known, but equally loved anti-heroes. They are on our kids’ shirts, their lunch-boxes and, admit it, on some of your underwears. It seems like in the last decade or so, Super Heroes have had an amazing renaissance, moving from the realm of the comic book collector and cosplayer, into everyone’s life, every which way you turn. One thing has remained consistent throughout this renaissance, and will continue well afterwards. Real life heroes have surrounded us every single day, and usually go unrecognized. Well, now it’s time to start seeing these people for who they truly are. Inspirations. Friends. Helpers. Organizers. The quiet people who surround us every day, and improve the lives of those around them.

Life of Dad has teamed up with Marvel to recognize these true heroes! We want you to find that person in your community and nominate them to be recognized, using #WhoIsYourHero. They can be your hero for whatever reason you think fits. Do you have a neighbor who shovels the driveways of elderly people on your street? Is your mom working nights to ensure you have all that you need? Do you know someone big or small who bravely battles a sickness and brings hope to those around them?? We want to know who they are! Old, young, man, woman….. If they’re your hero, tell us why!

For my part, I’m nominating my friend Cory Danger. I’ve known Cory for about 5 years now and have known him to be a selfless, hardworking and giving man that truly cares for the people around him; be it family, friends, employees or strangers. Cory owns two of the best barber shops in Southern California, and at first glance is an….. intimidating looking fellow. But the artwork that adorns his exterior, is only an extension of the artistic soul it houses.  At both of his shop’s locations, he’s instilled his spirit into the way his organization operates. It’s a welcoming place where you’ll hear many laughs from diverse workers and clients alike. But this isn’t why Cory is being nominated. He not only uses his skills to sharpen the looks of anyone lucky enough to visit his locations, he is extraordinarily giving with his skills. Cory is known to forgo payment from people he knows are down on their luck; quietly insisting that they’ll get square with the house whenever they’re able. He also takes his experience as a business owner and gives talks in local schools. He demonstrates in person, how someone who isn’t destined for college can become more of a success by building something of their own. He gives hope to those who don’t have direction and proves that determination and hard work pays off. His shops also sponsor local Little League teams, helping kids afford equipment and field time. He hires a Santa Claus to sit in his shop for kids photos every Christmas. Plus, when he’s not busy running and actively working in either of his shops, his supply store or just being an awesome dad, he spends countless hours volunteering to help run a punk rock music and tattoo festival. The hours he commits to that is just a perfect example of the selflessness that he exhibits every day. Cory exemplifies the notion that Super Heroes come in all shapes, sizes and are sometimes multi-colored. Cory Danger is a Super Hero, and it’s time people know it.

Now it’s time for you to nominate someone. Remember, being a Super Hero isn’t about how big or strong you are. It’s about your strength of character and the size of your heart. So who is your hero? Snap a picture and tell us what makes this person a hero in your life, in the lives of those they’re near and the community they inhabit!

I have partnered with Life of Dad and Marvel for this campaign, but my opinions are my own.
