INTRODUCING YOU TO BANDS YOU MIGHT  NOT KNOW, BUT TOTALLY SHOULD.

Siouxsie and the Banshees

For the most part, the Playlist elevated series focuses on lesser known artists that deserve more attention, but occasionally I’ll put the spotlight back on a singer or band that people should rediscover. I’ve done it with The Clash, The Cure, Desmond Dekker Ralph Vaughan Williams and now, with Siouxsie and the Banshees. If you don’t know the band by name, you’ve almost certainly known some of their work. Particularly Kiss Them For Me, or Hong Kong Garden. The band assembled in the late 70’s and are one of the exceedingly few lasting acts from the early emergence of punk. While most of their music doesn’t resemble the Punk Rock of today, their melodic artistry helped form and define the early movement. Plus, with a revolving series of bandmates that have included Robert Smith of The Cure, Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols, Marco Pirroni from Adam and the Ants and Budgie from The Slits, SATB could be one of the most central and influential bands of the era. If it’s been a while since you’ve listened to them, or if you’re completely unfamiliar, now is a good time to get to know Siouxsie and the Banshees.
