INTRODUCING YOU TO BANDS YOU MIGHT  NOT KNOW, BUT TOTALLY SHOULD.

Turbolens

This week’s article brings us back to good old Denmark and since I already used up my pastry jokes on Asger Techau, I’ll just have to stick to the music of former Mew member Rune Madsen. Would it be weird for most successful musicians to start a new band with 10-14 year olds? Be as good at crafting some great tunes as he is and I suppose you can make anything work. Easier than drawing up contracts with seasoned vets too I suppose. If you are familiar with Mew, you’d expect a little more of the space-pop sound his old band mastered. You won’t find as much of it here in this solo work which leans more heavily on slowly building minimalism. Were it not for the song Slikker Tid, I wouldn’t have ever equated the two at all. Less bombast and dreamy ambience makes his new work truly his own. Wonderful backing from his band of kids carries his voice well and even though it’s in Danish, the mood he sets artistically translates the meanings for those not versed in Dutch.

Notable Songs:

Slikker Tid
