I’m always surprised at how few people know of The Beta Band. If you mention Radiohead to someone you’ll get instant recognition and yet The Beta Band who emerged at around the same time with an arguably superior grasp of the space they shared is still relatively obscure. If you’ve seen the movie High Fidelity, you’ve heard this Scottish band at least once. It’s the band that John Cusack plays as he tells his coworker that the shoppers in the store will now buy it. The band started in 1996 and broke up over 10 years ago, leaving us with a decade worth of mellow electronic-folk that I love using as background music as I work. They are super relaxing and tend to reduce the already insanely low levels of stress I ever feel. If you know the band, get back into them. If not, enjoy!
